Talent, beauty, a very successful career, a high-profile marriage, and now a new baby – it seems like Beyoncé has it all! Believe it or not, in her own words, there is one thing that Beyoncé is not happy about. In an interview the star stated, “If I could change one part it would be my feet. After all the years dancing they’re a little beat up.” Who would thought Beyoncé would want to change anything about herself…let alone her feet!
Beyoncé is famous, but like the rest of us, she is getting older. We use our feet everyday and as we age, we can expect some wear and tear. Loss of flexibility, pain, bumps, dry skin, and even odor are some of the foot problems we may experience as we get older. Reading that may make you feel a little depressed, but there are things you can do now to make sure your feet are healthy well into your later years.
Besides coming to the Affiliated Foot & Ankle Center (located in Howell, Edison, and Monroe, New Jersey) for all her foot issues, Beyoncé needs to take the next step and actually do what podiatrists say. In almost 90% of Beyoncé’s photographs, she is in heels! Podiatrists are not lying when they say wearing heels can make simple foot problems worse. This fall, we saw some really interesting styles of heels from those shaped like ice skates to those that looked like a bear paw. These shoes look cool, but our feet are not designed to walk around in these shoes. Imagine the damage that can happen if you lose your balance and fall while attempting to walk in these shoes.
Another thing Beyoncé can do to save her feet is to wear the right shoes for the occasion. Beyoncé performs several times a year and, of course, she does all of her dance routines in high heels. You may not dance in heels night after night, but are there times when you find yourself wearing the wrong shoe at the wrong time? How many times how you grabbed your flip flops for a quick run to the store. The next thing you know, your flip flops are your shoes of choice for every trip to the store! If you read this blog frequently, you know that flip flops may feel comfortable, but most styles do not offer any arch support to the feet. With the weather getting colder, no one should be wearing flip flops outside anyway. You should have a comfortable boot or shoe that keeps your feet warm and dry. Don’t be fooled by popular expensive brands, make sure you are spending your money on a shoe that is not going to cause pain in your feet. If you have an upcoming appointment Affiliated Foot & Ankle Center, ask your podiatrist about what you should be looking for in a winter shoe. If you wear orthotics, don’t forget to make sure your orthotics are able to function properly in your winter shoes.
Nobody likes to think about getting older, but it’s happening…with every passing minute. Just like other parts of our body, the way we treat our feet today, plays a huge role in how our feet look and feel later. Think about that they next time you are tempted to copy those cute heels that Beyoncé is wearing on the red carpet.
