(Associated Press)  The National CMT Resource Center is thrilled to partner with the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) to provide a course on Charcot-Marie-Tooth at its annual meeting, which will feature Dr. Hal Ornstein of Affiliated Foot and Ankle, LLP in Howell, Edison and Monroe, NJ.  Hal Ornstein, DPM, FASPS, recently accepted to proudly serve as a Specialist and Advisor for the National CMT Resource Center (funded by the Center for Disease Control & Prevention) collaboration between the podiatric specialty and the Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation.

The AANEM holds an annual meeting to provide crucial continuing medical education for its members and others.  This year’s meeting will take place on September 14-17, 2011 in San Francisco, CA.  National CMT Resource Center experts will present on relevant topics, including “Podiatry and Patients with CMT” by Hal Ornstein, DPM, FASPS.

Dr. Ornstein has practiced in Howell, New Jersey for over twenty years where he is actively involved with several community service organizations. He is the Immediate Past President of the Howell Chamber of Commerce and the Founder of the Miles of Smiles Birthday Club for underprivileged children and seniors.  He also serves on the Executive Committee for Oceans of Love, a local charity for children with cancer.  Dr. Ornstein is a nationally renowned lecturer and author on the subject of patient satisfaction.  Specific to the podiatric realm, Dr. Ornstein proudly serves as Chairman and Director of Corporate Development for the American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management (AAPPM), Consulting Editor for Podiatry Management Magazine and faculty and coordinator of the four-year practice management course at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine.  He also serves on the Alumni Board of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (OCPM) and in 2011, was inducted into the OCPM Hall of Fame.  In 2009, he was inducted into the Podiatric Hall of Fame and received the Podiatry Management Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award.  His life mission statement is “Every Day is an Opportunity to Create and Share Miles of Smiles” and he applies this to all aspects of his life, and will strive to voice this message along with bridging the educational gap between CMT and podiatry.

The AANEM is a non-profit membership association dedicated to the advancement of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and electrodiagnostic medicine.  Comprised of more than 5000 members, the AANEM includes neurologists, physiatrists, and researchers working to improve the quality of medical care provided to patients with muscle and nerve disorders.

The National CMT Resource Center and Dr. Ornstein are dedicated to offering those living with CMT, their caregivers and the general public essential information and resources about Charcot-Marie-Tooth.  They are also committed to providing education and training to those in the medical community and understand the need for access to health care professionals who know and understand CMT.  They will continue to partner with organizations like the AANEM and specialists like Dr. Ornstein to provide essential training and resources for the medical community.
