Peripheral Arterial Disease
Peripheral Arterial disease is an increasing problem that we are seeing with patients that come into the office. Patients experience pain while they are walking, pain at night, or non-healing wounds. It is becoming an increasing problem due to the number of diabetic patients as well as the Asian population and the level of obesity that we are seeing that is increasing also. Patients present to the office with these symptoms and we do a non-invasive testing that is covered by most major insurances. It is called PADnet where it is a system that creates this collaborative care effort where we do this non-invasive testing where we put a blood pressure cuff on the arm as series on the legs. It measures the blood flow that is going to the arm and then compares it to the blood flow going to the legs. BioMedix™ is the company that we use in our office and it creates this great collaborative effort where we perform the test. It then goes to a vascular specialist. The vascular specialist interprets the results and sends it back to us. We discuss the finding with the patient and then can send them both to their primary care physician and also a vascular specialist if they need to for either intervention or medical management of this.
