Solutions for “Ugly” Feet

In our experience here at Affiliated Foot & Ankle Center, too many people are embarrassed by their feet. Socks and shoes help them tuck away their embarrassment during the cold months. But feet don’t hide so easily this time of year. If you hold your feet in low esteem, the first thing board-certified podiatrists Dr. Samantha Boyd, Dr. Hal Ornstein, Dr. Dan Phan, and Dr. Joseph Saka suggest is to change your mindset. Whatever you think is wrong with your feet, we’ve most likely got a solution for you.

Problem: Bunions

Solution:  A sandal with a low heel and wide toe area. Many styles of open-toed shoes for both men and women have the room you need to accommodate a bunion. For women, avoid high heels that force you to bear weight on your toes. If you’ve suffered from a bunion for a long time, it may be time to consider bunion surgery.

Problem: Ugly toenails

Solution: Find out what’s making your toenails discolored or crumbling. If you’ve got a fungus that you’ve tried to eliminate at home without success, it may be because you’re not using the right medications. Laser therapy can also help.

Problem: Corns and calluses

Solution: Podiatrists have safe, effective ways to treat these areas of thickened skin on your feet.

Problem: Cracked heels

Solution: Persistent, deep cracks in your heels are not just unsightly: they’re prone to infection. If home treatments aren’t helping, make an appointment with us.

Problem: Toe deformities

Solution: Bent, clawed, or overlapping toes can improve with stretching exercises and, if necessary, surgery.
