If you’re scrambling to get your holiday shopping done, the board-certified podiatrists at Affiliated Foot & Ankle Center in Monmouth County have a suggestion. Focus on feet! Consider purchasing gifts like these that will keep your friends and family moving around on happy and healthy feet:

  • Socks. Boring gift? Not at all! With all the colors and styles available now, you’re sure to find socks to please anyone on your list. Specialty athletic shoe stores have a great selection of socks for men, women, and children. They conform to your feet, providing comfortable arch and heel cushioning - great for athletes and anyone who moves around on their feet!

  • Gift-certificate for a spa pedicure or foot massage. Just make sure the pedicurist or massage therapist you choose is licensed and reputable.

  • An at-home pedicure kit. Put it together yourself. Include high-quality nail clippers, files, a pumice stone to exfoliate skin and reduce calluses, and moisturizer.

  • A foot spa that gently massages tired, achy feet.

  • Thick moisturizer. Opt for a “cream” rather than a “lotion.” Dermatologists agree that creams will do a better job of moisturizing skin.

  • Slippers that support. Cute and fuzzy slippers are great, but not if they’re completely flat and offer no arch support. Look for a pair that’s got the American Pediatric Medical Association’s seal of approval, especially if your intended has a history of foot pain or plantar fasciitis

If you’re buying gifts for someone with diabetes, have them check in with us for a complete foot exam before using any at-home foot products. The hot water of a foot spa, for example, can be dangerous for anyone with neuropathy.

Our two feet probably get the least attention of all our body parts, so try putting them at the center of your holiday.
