June is Men’s Health Month. All of us at Affiliated Foot & Ankle Center want to speak to the men out there who may be turning a blind eye to their foot problems. Fixing foot problems may not seem like a priority in this busy life. But taking care of foot problems when they’re minor helps ensure that they won’t become major problems later on.

  1. Sweaty, smelly feet. Sweat is good. It protects your body from overheating. But it definitely can cause an offensive odor. Control smelly feet by washing them daily, wearing moisture-wicking socks, alternating the shoes you wear, and taking advantage of shoes made of fabrics that “breathe.” If your feet sweat so much that it interferes with your daily life, make an appointment with us at our Monmouth County podiatry office. We can determine if you’ve got an underlying medical condition such as hyperhidrosis.

  2. Itchy feet. Excessive itching could point to something as simple as dry skin that you can treat at home with a thick moisturizer. Or you could have an infection such as athlete’s foot. If your feet have been itchy for a long time with no relief, our podiatrists can help.

  3. Numb and tingly feet. Persistently numb feet or a constant feeling of pins and needles indicates potential nerve damage, possibly due to diabetes.

  4. Ancient shoes. If your feet are tired at the end of the day, it may be because your shoes have had it! Make it a point to regularly replace shoes that no longer fit well or provide adequate support.

  5. Wrong athletic shoes. Sneakers are designed with specific sports in mind. The lateral movements of tennis require a shoe with one kind of support; the jumps of basketball require a different kind. Wearing the wrong shoes can promote problems liketendinitis and stress fractures.

  6. Ugly toenails. Nails that are crumbly, black, yellow are probably infected. Contact us for treatment with prescription medications or laser therapy to safely zap out fungus.

Dr. Samantha Boyd, Dr. Hal Ornstein, Dr. Dan Phan, and Dr. Joseph Saka treat men and women of all ages for foot infections, sports injuries, odors that won’t go away, and pain of all kinds. Don’t hesitate to seek treatment by calling us at (732) 905-1110 for an appointment at our office in Howell or Jackson, New Jersey. We also welcome your inquiries online.
